Want to know which industries are not competitive/free markets? Look to ones that treat customers poorly. Walk into the airport, a hospital, or the DMV. Are the people happy to see you? No? why not? you are about to hand them a ton of money. WHY DOESNT MONEY MAKE THEM HAPPY? The people working their are almost sick that you had the audacity to show up. Waiting should be minimized for profit maximization, but if you are the only choice (airports), there is nowhere else for customers to go. You can treat them like crap and they’ll keep coming back.
Flight:
Situation: TSA Pre-check, and now Clear are solving problems that shouldn’t even exist in the first place. Permanent bandaids that not only waste time and money, but also frustrate passengers. Why do I need an ID to fly? Why are my 4th amendment rights put on hold as they search my stuff? Why do we take off our shoes?
How is a flight much different from a train/subway/taxi? After 9/11, airplane manufacturers made it so you cant access the cabin from the outside. That was probably a good move in deterring future incidents. How many lives have been saved from removing computers from bags and taking off shoes? 0?
Goob fix- Abolish TSA. Remove IDs mandate, let individual airlines add additional vetting if there is market demand.
Buying Houses & Cars:
Situation: Why do home purchasers have to be desperate to give someone north of half a million dollars? Why do I have to talk to some doofus in a short sleeve button up with a tie to buy a car? The two biggest purchases people make, yet they are both unpleasant.
Goob Fix: Cut out the useless middlemen. Automobile manufacturers should be allowed to sell directly on their website, have complete price transparency, and deliver the car to your door. Houses should be able to be purchased without realitors. A third party company could make a trillion dollars by simply hiring an army of appraiser/inspectors that view homes and list on an app/website with their opinion and rating. Customers browze app and can buy directly.
Drugs:
Situation: Most fentanyl deaths are preventable. 99% are accidental overdoses. Regulation is killing people because individuals dont have access to drugs. Street drugs are being laced with an invisable, additive, killing powder and there is only one way to solve it.
Goob Fix: Legalize drugs. Brand name drugs would give consumers more faith in the drugs they consume. No more guessing on purity or dosing.
Final Good thought-The permanence of regulation:
The year is 2100, a young wipper snapper named James enters the galactic meal room. he is astonished the person greeting him is maskless.
"Where is your mask!"", James demands.
"Why would I wear a mask", replies the martian.
"COVID-19 of course"
"what is COVID-19" the martian asks.
"well its a respiratory disease from 2019"
"what is a respiratory disease"
James ponders, he has no clue. His parents wore masks just as their parents before them. He didnt know what a respiratory disease was and had never known someone who had COVID-19.
James shrugs as he heads to his table. James then procedes to remove his mask to eat some Cosmic Gumbo. “What an idiot” James mumbles to himself thinking of the alien, walking around maskless.
